SCOPE OF WORK / DUTIES / ROLES

We are seeking a Local Access Network Technician for a contract role required by a costumer at Belgium.

The Local Access Network Technician will be responsible for:

  • Direct 3rd level fault resolution on Local Area Network (LAN) Elements to sectors, sites and the Service Area cells;
  • Day-to-day operation of local and remote network sites routing, switching, and wireless infrastructure including some tasks that require installation and troubleshoot of physical layer;
  • Ensure that, on LAN elements, remote routine maintenance  is performed;
  • Coordinate with sites to implement LAN elements centralisation, standardisation and best practices;
  • Develop and maintain the documentation supporting the  Maintenance and Operations; 
  • Operate provided management toolsets and capabilities;
  • Ensure a common understanding of the available toolsets and methods of utilisation within the centralised and distributed user base;
  • Investigating and proposing long-term solutions to encountered equipment and configuration problems;
  • Create and maintain network diagrams using various tools and applications like Microsoft Visio;
  • Be accountable for the hardware and software part of network equipment like switches, routers, servers, network analysis devices (e.g. Fluke);
  • Coordinate on-site surveys, validations, and system acceptance testing for the local area network and wider IT infrastructure when required.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
    • Strong knowledge of network administration and network infrastructure.
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and providing technical support.
    • Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices.
    • Experience with cabling systems (optical and electrical) in campus environments and data centers.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment.
    • Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) processes, including incident resolution, service request execution, problem resolution, and fault fixing.
    • Experience in configuration management and record management.
    • Hands-on experience with network management tools, planning, and network element recovery;
    • Experience with STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network), FHRP (First Hop Redundancy Protocol), port-security, TACACS (Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System), SNMP (Simple Network Management protocol), ACL (Access Control Lists), QoS (Quality of Service), IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol), PIM (Protocol-Independent Multicast), VRF (Virtual Route Forwarding), LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol), LAG (Link Aggregation Group), IPV6 (Internet Protocol version 6) network technologies and concepts;
    • Understanding of Firewall, Intrusion Detection System, IPSec (Internet Protocol Security), VPN (Virtual Private Network) technologies and concepts;
    • Knowledge of Data Centre and virtualisation technologies such as VMWare, Nexus devices, VSS (Virtual Switching System), vPC (Virtual Port-channel), MEC (Multichassis EtherChannel), etc;
    • Knowledge of shell scripting is a plus;
    • Familiarity with network monitoring tools, Network Automation, InterMapper, Splunk, Spectrum);
    •  Understanding of MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), Video, Voice and Wireless technologies and concepts;
    • Must have or be able to obtain a NATO Secret security clearance. We can sponsor you in this process.
    • Relevant certifications: Network Administration or related fields. (Cisco CCNA or CCNP) It is a plus.
    • Experience working in security-cleared environments is a plus.
